School Asset Protection Strategy
Many schools across the UK now have ICT suites containing in excess of £50,000 of easily damaged IT equipment yet have no system in place to deter, record and archive any acts of vandalism or theft by the pupils within these areas. With school's having an average annual theft/vandalism bill of between £8,000 to £10,000 the time has come for a comprehensive asset protection policy:
The ROI figures are - If a school spends £8,000 on a centralised anti-vandalism camera system it will have practically paid for itself by the end of year one.
However, the installation of the camera system is only half the solution to protecting the school's assets, the school must also change the mindset of the pupils and thus a more holistic and staged approach is needed:
- The system is installed.
- Running directly alongside the installation the school grandly announces the arrival of the system - with editorial about it throughout the website and other school literature.
- Actual screen shots from the system can be displayed on the school website/intranet as well as on the school plasma screens to demonstrate both the clarity of pictures and the complete coverage of the camera views.
- Senior management can pick out and make examples of good and responsible pupil behaviour within these high value asset areas, as well as acts of vandalism.
Over time the system becomes a powerful behavioural management tool which saves your school money by reducing damage and theft of school property, as well as increasing efficiencies by allowing your teachers to do more teaching and less protecting.
